Welcoming your new baby into the world is one of life’s most precious moments — and capturing those early days at home creates memories you’ll treasure forever. An at-home newborn photography session is all about keeping things natural, comfortable, and relaxed, so you can focus on soaking up those newborn cuddles while I capture the magic.

Here are my top tips to help you prepare for a smooth and beautiful newborn photo session at home — whether you’re in London, Kent, or Sussex.
1. Warm and Cozy Wins the Day
Babies love warmth — it helps them stay sleepy and settled for those dreamy, snuggly shots. Before your session, warm the main room to around 24–27°C. If it feels a little toasty to you, it’s probably just right for your little one!
2. Feed Baby Before We Begin
A full tummy is the secret to a happy, content baby. Try to time a feed just before your photographer arrives, so your little one is calm and ready for some cozy photos.
3. Tidy Key Spaces (But Don’t Panic!)
You don’t need a spotless home — promise! I recommend a quick tidy-up in the rooms we’ll use, usually the bedroom, nursery, or living room. A clear space with neutral tones helps keep the focus on your baby and your family’s connection.
4. Embrace Natural Light
Soft, natural light brings a beautiful, airy feel to your images. Open your curtains wide and switch off overhead lights. I’ll find the best spots in your home where the light falls just right.
5. Keep Outfits Simple and Neutral
Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and never go out of style — think whites, creams, beiges, and muted pastels. Avoid bright colours or busy patterns. Bare feet, soft fabrics, and natural textures always look lovely in newborn sessions. We provide a variety of outfits and swaddles too - so don't panic if you don't know what to dress your little one in.

6. Have Essentials Within Reach
Keep nappies, wipes, muslins, and spare outfits nearby — little pauses for feeding or cuddles are part of the flow. Newborn photography is never rushed; we take our time to keep everyone happy and comfortable.
7. Add a Personal Touch
Consider including special keepsakes — a handmade blanket, a family heirloom, or that adorable nursery detail you’re so proud of. These personal touches help tell your family’s unique story.
8. Relax — Baby Leads the Way
Your baby runs the show, and that’s part of the charm! Some of the most beautiful images come from spontaneous, natural moments. I’ll gently guide you throughout, but your baby sets the pace.
9. Don’t Forget to Get in the Frame
You might not feel “camera-ready,” but please don’t hide behind the lens. These moments are about love, not perfection. Your baby will one day look back and see how adored they were in these early days — and that’s priceless.
10. Book Early to Secure Your Date
The best time for a newborn session is within the first two weeks after birth, while your baby is still sleepy and curled up. I always recommend booking while you’re still pregnant- just after your 20 week scan, so we can pencil in your due date and stay flexible when baby arrives.
