Why are capturing your newborns features so important?

So the time has come, you get to see the beautiful bundle of joy who was kicking your ribs like a pro footballer for 9 months. The feelings you're going through can be heightened, the joy, the love, the bond, the sweetness of their newborn scrunch... but along with it comes the newborn cluster feeding and sleepless nights. Parenthood, while it isnt always easy, is an amazing experience. Yet, while they'll be your son or daughter forever, their time as a newborn is limited. So much so, that the newborn phase only lasts 28 days, hard to believe when you're up every 2 hours feeding, but those precious moments, when the world is silent and it is just you and your newborn baby will be the moments you miss most.

Most newborn photography sessions focus on their gorgeous face and their tiny little bodies swaddled all tight and cozy, but there is a lot of beauty in those tiny toes, the scrunch at the end of their nose or even the way their little hands are all balled up. Those are the details that you will struggle to remember. Those are the details which deserve to be captured and stored for years to come.
But why would I want our newborns features photographed?
Those days with your newborn are short, too short and that tiny fragile little baby you hold will not be that small ever again. The rate that a newborn grows is insane, usually growning by an ounce a day. Which, I agree doesn't sound like a huge amount, but that ounce a day adds up faster than you would ever believe.
Those detailed images are designed to hightlight the softness of their hair, the wrinkles on their feet, the curve of their lips. The images taken are designed to freeze those moments and preserve the things which change the quickest so that you can look back at them for years to come.
In our house the photos which gain the largest number of compliments are newborn feature photos, no one can resist those delicate newborn fingers grasping one another, of those crossed feet that will one day be running through your home. These photos are your families story and display the perfection in which you created.
What features would we recommend photographing?
Every part of your baby is beautiful, but there are some parts of them which will change faster than you can imagine, parts of them you will struggle to remember. So we would always recommend trying to capture images of their fingers and feet, the feet that will one day pitter patter around your home and those fingers that will grasp yours as you walk down the street. As their hand fills yours it would be easy to forget when all they could do was hold your finger.
Another favourite of ours is photographing newborn babies eyes and mouths. Those eyes that stare up at you full of love and potential and the mouth which will no doubt prove relentless - especially when they have learnt the words no and why.
